Psalm 23 pasted from the e-Sword module (1920 So Bible). The year 1920 is an anachronism. The Modricker Somali Bible was published in 1979 (NT in 1976).
Psa 23:1 Rabbigu waa adhijirka i jira; waxba u baahan maayo. Psa 23:2 WUXUU i fadhiisiiyaa doog qoyan dhexdiis, Oo wuxuu ii hoggaamiyaa biyaha deggan dhinacooda. Psa 23:3 Naftayda wuu soo celiyaa. Oo magiciisa aawadiis wuxuu igu hor kacaa waddooyinka xaqnimada. Psa 23:4 In kastoo aan ku dhex socdo dooxada hooska dhimashada, Sharna ka baqi maayo, waayo, waad ila jirtaa, Ushaada iyo hangoolkaaga ayaa ii raaxeeya. Psa 23:5 Cadaawayaashayda hortooda waxaad iigu diyaarisaa miis, Oo saliid baad madaxayga ku subagtaa, koobkayguna waa buux dhaafaa. Psa 23:6 Hubaal cimrigayga oo dhan waxaa i raaci doona wanaag iyo naxariis, Oo weligay guriga Rabbiga ayaan degganaan doonaa.
This blogpost reviews the book: "Hardest Place, The: The Biography of Warren and Dorothy Modricker" ISBN: 1-55306-994-3 Author: Helen Miller # of pages: 272 Release Date: 1/20/06 Publisher: Guardian Books
"… a missionary hero of a different sort – far more like you and me. In The Hardest Place, Helen Miller introduces powerful, passionate Warren & Dorothy Modricker. As part of Warren's team her personal knowledge brings this biography alive. She saw their strengths and weaknesses and shares their love for the Somali People. This is the story of reaching a culture damaged by sin and colonization, embittered toward one another by Communism and shattered by the remaining tribalism. Both God and faith are alive and well in this book." Brian Seim, Director, SIM Culture Connexions
I have just created the Somali Go Bible based on the Modricker translation. Until I have determined the copyright status, this will not be uploaded for distribution.
The first Somali NT was published in 1976 by the Kenyan Bible Society "Axdiga Cusub oo Rabbigeena iyo Badbaadiyeheena Ciise Masiix."
The complete Bible followed in 1979. "Kitaabka Qoduuska Ah."
The first Bible in Somali. With chapter and section headings, inter-Gospel references, maps. Consists of the New Testament (in official Roman script) published in 1976 by the Bible Society of Kenya, translated by Dorothy and H. Warren Modricker of the Sudan Interior Mission and a committee, together with the Old Testament translated by H. Warren Modricker, Adan Jimale Farah and others.
The Gospel of Luke was published: Bible Society in East Africa, 1969. "Injilka sida Lukos u Qorey : Lukos. "
With chapter and section headings. Translated by Dorothy and H. Warren Modricker (Sudan Interior Mission), Yusuf Nur 'Ise, Yusuf Salad, Adan Jimale Farah and a committee.
I just found Somali Christian Ministries website, based in Toronto, which is home to more than 90,000 Somalis. The site has pages on English and Somali. http://somalichristians.org/
Telecoms thriving in lawless Somalia - see this BBC News Item ..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4020259.stm
This news story underlines the strategic importance of having the Somali Bible available for mobile users. Please pray for progress towards obtaining permission from the copyright holder, whoever that may be. I'm still no further in this quest, so I may write to Helen Miller in Toronto. Her biography of the Modrickers was quite riveting. It took me less than a weekend to read it.
Ownership of the Somali Bible text One thing that has held up the typesetting has been negotiations with the Africa office of the United Bible Societies regarding ownership of the text. (We want the Bible Society to reprint the Somali Bible and distribute it.) SIM originally produced the text and revised it with its own resources, which makes it the legal owner of the text. However, UBS Africa has maintained that it owns the text because it printed it previously. We asked you to pray about this, for we need to keep the ownership of the text, in order to have the freedom to produce the Somali Bible in other media and on the Internet. For 6 months the matter was under negotiation.
In April I attended the Forum of Bible Agencies International meetings in Texas. There I met up with the head of the United Bible Societies World Service Center, the General Secretary. When he heard about our negotiations with the UBS Africa branch, he said to send him the details by email. I did that and five days later I received an email from UBS Africa saying that they now recognize SIM as the legal owner of the Somali Bible text and that they are ready to complete a Publishing Agreement to print the Bible.
Attending meetings and conferences like this gives me contacts with heads of organizations that can help us in the field. Thanks goes to you supporters who help make it possible for me to attend these meetings, which give me sources and resources that assist our SIM teams in Bible translation, literacy and storying.
We'll let you know when we complete the final camera ready copy of the revised Somali Bible and send it off to the printers. In the meantime, please uphold us in prayer.
I received a positive response from Bruce Adams today, and look forward to collaborating with the translators of the Somali Bible, Kitaabka Bilowgii. The first translated books of the OT are posted in this website: http://www.noloshacusub.net/ http://www.noloshacusub.net/Bible/OT/Genesis.aspx
Found time today to build the Somali Go Bible using the latest source text file from SIM and using a Somali translation of the UI. The file name is KitaabkaQuduuska.zip
I will provide download details later, once SIM has approved it.
